What does it stand for?
Historically, the Guksae (Great Seal of the Sovereign) has symbolized the absolute authority of Korean kings. The Apex Tiger reigning atop represents the will of an absolute sovereign who brings all to their knees. To reign over all, one must first undergo the process of 'Self-Overcoming'—constantly transcending and surpassing the self. This noble struggle—possessing yourself entirely and breaking through your limits—is the true essence of a ruler(we call 'Ubermensch') reaching the apex.
What is the tiger looking at?
Ancient Korean kings sat facing South, listening to the voices of the world and governing for the people. The Apex Tiger also stands facing South. This signifies that one who reigns over all does not merely reign through force, but possesses a 'Embrace', knowing how to encompass and govern all.
What are those under the tiger?
To assist the Apex Tiger at the peak of sovereignty, the Sashin(legendary Four Deities) of the East guard the four cardinal directions of the seal.
South: Jujak (Vermilion Bird), the leader of all winged creatures, guards the South.
East: Cheongryong (Azure Dragon), the leader of all scaled creatures, adds authority from the East.
West & North: Although not visible in the print, Baekho (White Tiger), the leader of all beasts, and Hyeonmu (Black Tortoise & Snake), the leader of all shelled creatures, stand firm at the West and North respectively, supporting the sovereign's throne.
